The
most northerly of the Canary Isles,
Lanzarote has a charm and character
all of its own. With eerie lunar
landscapes and fascinating stark rock
formations, picturesque inner villages
and splendid seaside resorts, Lanzarote
certainly is an island of contrasts.
Enjoying a comfortable climate year
round thanks to its location off the
African coast and warm breezes sweeping
in from the Sahara, Lanzarote is a
fantastic holiday destination for all.
Famed for its water sports and boasting
long sandy beaches with calm crystalline
waters backed by friendly low-rise
resorts, Lanzarote appeals to those in
search of striking natural beauty,
pleasing architecture and delectable
cuisine. A holiday in Lanzarote is not
complete without a trip to the Fire
Mountain at Timanfaya National Park,
home to extraordinary volcanic
landscapes with deep craters and lava
streams reminiscent of the surface of
the moon. |

Puerto Del Carmen |
|
Once
a tiny fishing village, Puerto Del
Carmen is now quite simply the largest
and most popular resort on the island.
Situated east of the southern coast, the
main strip of the resort boasts a
sweeping sandy beach stretching for 6
kilometres along the shore. With soft
golden sand and calm clear water, the
beach is ideal for sunbathing and
swimming. By night the strip is
transformed into the focal point of the
town where neon clad restaurants and
bars come to life. Yet this modern
resort is not over the top and has
managed to maintain its traditional
roots at the old harbour area, where you
will find a number of charming tapas
bars and authentic fish restaurants.
Whether you seek lazy beach based days
and romantic evening meals or days
shopping followed by night time
entertainment into the early hours,
Puerto Del Carmen has something for
everyone. |

Los Pocillos |
|
Just along the coast from Playa Del
Carmen is the more relaxed resort of Los
Pocillos. With its superb wide sandy
beach and calm atmosphere, Los Pocillos
is ideal for couples, families and those
in search of a peaceful respite. Behind
the beach is a pleasant promenade and a
selection of friendly bars, restaurants
and shops. The nightlife here is a
subtle affair whilst the buzzing resort
is Playa Del Carmen is only a short
distance away. |

Matagorda |
|
Adjacent to Los Pocillos, near to the
airport, sits the delightful resort of
Matagorda. Whilst relatively tranquil
like its neighbour, Matagorda is more
self-sufficient with a good range of
bars and shops as well as excellent
restaurants offering international
cuisine, seafood and traditional
Canarian fare. The pleasant small sandy
beach is a popular spot for sunbathing
and windsurfing while the larger beach
at Los Pocillos and the bright lights of
Playa Del Carmen are within easy reach.

Playa Blanca |
|
On the tip of the southern coast lies
the charming resort of Playa Blanca.
Although one of the islands main
resorts, Playa Blanca remains relatively
quiet and is ideal for a relaxed and
peaceful holiday. Once a quaint fishing
village, life here is still centred
around its bustling port where boats and
ferries carry eager passengers to nearby
beaches and neighbouring islands. A
lovely seafront promenade links the
harbour to the resorts three main
beaches all of which are made up of soft
white sand. Plenty of restaurants, snack
bars, cafes and shops line the promenade
and are a delightful spot to relax and
take in the wonderful views over to
Fuerteventura. Playa Blanca plays host
to a number of upmarket hotels and with
its low-key feel, beautiful beaches and
fabulous seafront restaurants, the
resort is a popular choice for couples
and families alike. From here you can
also explore the paradise beaches of
Papagayo, which can be accessed by car
or boat. |

Costa Teguise |
|
Situated
on the northerly east coast, Costa
Teguise is a haven for beach lovers and
water sports enthusiasts. This smart and
modern resort has been thoughtfully
designed in typical Lanzarote style, and
its low rise white-washed buildings are
cheerfully
decorated with wooden shutters of green
and blue. The main beach, Las Cucharas,
is a gorgeous stretch of golden sand
with calm crystal clear waters, ideal
for basking in the sun or taking a
refreshing dip. With its constant
pleasant breeze, this large crescent
shaped bay provides perfect conditions
for water sports and is home to a local
windsurfing school. No less than four
smaller beaches provide an alternative
place to soak up the beautiful Canarian
sunshine. Friendly shops, bars and
restaurants encircle Las Cucharas beach
whilst the town itself offers charming
squares with clusters of superb
eateries. The resort also boasts the
islands only water park on its
outskirts, as well as an excellent
18-hole golf course. With splendid
beaches, top-class restaurants and
calming atmosphere, Costa Teguise is a
perfect choice for a relaxing holiday
destination. |
